Isang malagim na insidente ang yumanig sa Malolos City, Bulacan nitong madaling araw ng Miyerkules, Mayo 21, 2025, matapos masunog ang bahay ng pamilyang Caluag sa Barangay Bulihan.
Ayon sa ulat ng Malolos Fire Station, sumiklab ang apoy bandang alas-4:00 ng madaling araw at tuluyang naapula pagsapit ng alas-4:18 ng umaga. Apektado sa insidente ang limang miyembro ng pamilya.
Kinilala ang mga nasawi na sina Maricel Santos Caluag, 49, isang guro sa Molina Montessori at Bulihan Elementary School; ang kanyang asawang si Phillip Caluag, 49; at ang kanilang mga anak na sina Felice, 18, at Julien Lucius, 10. A mysterious incident shook Malolos City, Bulacan early in the morning of Wednesday, May 21, 2025, after the house of the Caluag family in Barangay Bulihan caught fire.
According to the Malolos Fire Station report, the fire broke out around 4:00 in the morning and was completely extinguished by 4:18 in the morning. Five family members were affected by the incident.
Recognizing the deceased are Maricel Santos Caluag, 49, a teacher at Molina Montessori and Bulihan Elementary School; her husband Phillip Caluag, 49; and their children Felice, 18, and Julien Lucius, 10. Their 15-year-old son Yan (or Seth, according to other reports) survived but sustained injuries and is currently being treated in a hospital.
According to the investigation, one of the sneaky causes of the fire was a cell phone that was allegedly left charged while the family slept. The results of the investigation are not final yet, but authorities are reminding about the risk of overnight charging of electronic devices.
Mrs. Caluag’s co-workers and students jumped. He was described as a caring teacher who inspired many.
